The COVID-19 pandemic has caused anxiety on several levels. We are worried about contracting and possibly spreading the virus. We are attempting to work from home. Some of us are working from home while simultaneously performing as substitute teachers without training. Many of us are struggling financially. The future of our economy is uncertain. Even so, there are many helpful tools we can employ to help us weather the storm. We are all experiencing this unprecedented event together!

Here are some helpful tips for thriving in our ever-changing world

Wash your hands frequently! Follow the CDC’s recommendations and your local authorities’ instructions on social distancing.Do not panic! This situation is temporary, and panicking never helps.
Get Plenty of Sleep!Do not watch the news for too long, and be sure to obtain your news from a reputable source!
Eat Healthy Food, including Fruits and Vegetables. Avoid sugar, processed foods, and animal fats.Do not search for someone to blame. This usually isn’t productive or helpful, and will only increase anxiety and frustration.
Ask for help if you need it! People may surprise you with their generosity.Do not drink excessive amounts of caffeine or alcohol.
Talk to your friends, family members, and co-workers! During these times it is normal to worry, but discussing our emotions and using coping skills we have learned from prior stressful events can help immensely.Do not focus on things that are beyond your control. Invest your time and energy on things you can control and improve in your own environment.
Exercise! Even a short walk can do wonders for your physical and mental health. Feel the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, and the ground beneath your feet.Do not become a couch potato! Spending too much time in front of a screen can be depressing.
Be patient with everyone, including yourself!Do not overeat or under-eat. Try to maintain or improve your nutritional regimen.
Make plans for the future! This situation is temporary, and it’s great to have an adventure to look forward to.Do not listen to those who are in a constant state of catastrophe. This will only increase your anxiety.
Think of ways you can personally help your friends, family, and community. Helping others is very rewarding – spread the love and support those who are struggling.
